European Paper Industry - Part of a Sustainable Future

A strong record of efficiency - CEPI Sustainability Report 2011

The paper and pulp industry has made notable strides in its environmental performance over the past two decades. The industry has reduced its atmospherice missions, effluent load, carbon footprint, water intake and energy use. Energy and resource efficiency is at the heart of the industry, which has become a beacon of best practice internationally.

This sustainability report assimilates information and aggregates data from 2009 and 2010 voluntarily provided by companies and member organisations, and it is complemented by CEPI's own research. We are confident that the process is fully inclusive, transparent and stands up to scrutiny.

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) The CEPI report is guided by GRI criteria and has achieved the B+ requirements with A+ being the highest possible ranking. This is a great example of the effort CEPI is putting in improving data collection and forging agreements amongst members.

Our improvements Stakeholder involvement has been taken to a new level to include face-to-face discussions. In response to feedback from stakeholder meetings, we decided to provide more information on water, energy and recycling. We have also added a feedback form, which our readers can return to us easily.
